Kick-Ass movie review with some comics/movie comparison(spoiler warning)
Now to the comic vs. movie comparison
ATTENTION (SPOILER WARNING)
1.In the comic: Dave Lizewsk (a.k.a) Kick-Ass recieved an e-mail from a unknown girl that needed help, cause she was being harrassed by her ex-boyfriend Eddie Lomas. In the movie: Katie Deauxma told Dave Lizewsk that she was being harrassed from her ex-boyfriend named Razole(I might be spelling that one wrong) and she also e-mailed Kick-Ass of the issue as well.
2.In the comic: Kick-Ass went to the apartment to meet Eddie Lomas, to tell him to leave this woman alone, well him, and his gang attacked him to kill him, he did use pepper spray on them, which helped a bit, till he was rescued by Hit-Girl. In the movie: Kick-Ass went to the apartment to meet Razole, to tell him to leave Katie alone, well him, and his gang attacked him to kill him, he did use a taser on them, which helped a bit, till he was rescued by Hit-Girl.
3.In the comic: The unknown girl was a black african american that thanked Kick-Ass for what happened to Eddie, even though Big Daddy and Hit-Girl deserved the credit for the killing of Eddie and his gang. In the movie: Katie couldn't believe what happened to Razole, but she knows he has a rep, and that it was bound to happened.
4.In the comic: Katie believed this rumor that Dave is gay, but he isn't, and Dave couldn't believe that he is hearing this rumor, so Katie invited him to hang out with her, but instead of telling Katie that he is not gay, he took advantage of the situation in order to hang out with her. They hanged out by watching TV/Movie, while eating pop-corn. In the movie: Same type of situation except when they hanging out by having Dave rubbing lotion on her back.
5.In the comic: He came by as Kick-Ass toward Katies window to yell out "Not Gay", she woke up hearing that but only saw a small glimpse of Kick-Ass in her neighberhood. In the movie: He crawled in Katies window to let her know that he is Kick-Ass, and that he is not gay, but before he could, she jumped, and freaked out and pepper sprayed him, he told her to calm down, and while she was still freaking out, he removed his mask to reveal to her that Dave and Kick-Ass are one of the same, and also told her that he is not gay. She took the truth well, then things started to get hot, and heavy to where they're obviously about to have sex.
6.In the comic: Katie heard that Dave is not gay, so she asked if that is true, Dave said "No I'm not gay, and that he thinks about her every morning when he wakes up, and that he thinks about her every night, and that he couldn't be any gayer if he tried, she did not take it too well. In the movie: Katie took the truth very well, and now wants him bad.
7.In the comic: Close to the end, Kick-Ass got betrayed by Red Mist when he got hit in the back of the head by the handle of his gun, and in the end, Red Mist used the famous Joker line. In the movie: Kick-Ass was betrayed by Red Mist, but Red Mist all of a sudden felt guilty, and didn't want Kick-Ass hurt,(So he seems to show some good by expressing that) but also in the end, Red Mist used the famous Joker line.
8.In the comic: Big Daddy got shot and killed in the back of the head. In the movie: Big Daddy got shot a few times but never in the head, but he did die, after saying his last few words to Hit-Girl.
9.In the comic: Big Daddy is really a geek, making up a Punisher-ish ex-cop story as a way to impress his daughter. In the movie: He is a ex-cop.
10.In the comic: Big Daddys briefcase is really full of comics, even though he told them that it is full of money. In the movie: Big Daddy briefcase is full of $3 Million dollers.
11.In the comic: Kick-Ass recieved a major beating from the mob, and a major electric shock to the balls. In the movie: Kick-Ass recieved a major beating from the mob, but no electric shock to the balls.
12.In the comic: Kick-Ass never shot the mob with a gunpowered jetpack. In the movie: He did.
Cause of the small difference in the movie from the comic, I'd say the movie is 96% true to the book, I'll also give it a IGN-ish score of a 9.8, and a 1Up grade score of a A, and a X-Play-ish score of a 5 out of 5 stars, and here are IGN thoughts on Kick-Ass.

This is more funny then the joke itself
------------------------------------------------
"Hey Sam, you like superheroes" Diana remarked. I should say I do. I buy around forty dollars worth of comics a week.
"Yeah", I said. Diana had got me interested. She's not the type to bring up superheroes.
"Wanna hear a joke then" she said.
"Sure", I replied.
"Okay. Superman is flying around with nothing to do and he's bored and he decides he wants to go out for a beer so he goes to Batman's house...."
"Do you mean Wayne Manor or the Batcave" I inquired.
"What matter does it make" Diana said, annoyed that I had interrupted.
"Well, if Superman was seen going into Wayne Manor it would be suspicious and he might give away Batman's secret identity as Bruce Wayne so he would more likely go to the Batcave - but that's a cave, not a house".
"Okay. Superman goes to the Batcave."
"Okay", I agreed.
"So he asks Batman if he wants to go out for a drink but Batman says he can't because he has to stay home and feed his bats", Diana continued.
"Why does Batman need to feed the bats in the Batcave" I asked, "that seems like a waste of time. Does he not have better things to do? Its not like they are pets or anything. Why can't they catch their own dinner like normal bats?"
"That's not the point - alright? He just can't go with Superman because he's busy", Diana retorted.
"Fine" I sighed, "Batman needs to feed the bats. Go on"
"Alright. So Superman leaves and he goes to Spiderman's house to ask him if he wants to go out for a beer."
"Ummmmm...Diana", I interrupted"
"What now" Diana sighed.
"What is Spiderman doing in this story?" I inquired.
"What do you mean" Diana said in an annoyed voice.
"Well, technically its impossible for Superman to go and ask Spiderman out for a drink because Superman lives in the DC Universe and Spiderman lives in the Marvel Universe. I mean Superman could ask Green Lantern or Aquaman or the Flash out for a drink, and Spiderman could go for a drink with Captain America and Wolverine but unless Superman went through some weird portal, or unless he was in the midst of a giant cross company event, which is rather unlikely considering that they are just going out for a beer, its pretty much impossible for Spiderman and Superman to go for a beer. You know what I mean?"
Diana clearly didn't. I didn't want to explain again.
"Never mind. Superman goes to Spiderman's house to ask if he wants to go for a beer" I said.
"Okay. Yeah. But Spiderman said he couldn't because he had to stay home and feed his spiders" Diana continued.
"Hold on a second" I exclaimed, "can you explain to me exactly why Spiderman has spiders?"
"That's not important" Diana stated.
"But it doesn't make sense" I continued anyways, "Spiderman doesn't keep spiders around. Why would he? And besides, Aunt May and MJ wouldn't put up with that kind of crap if he wanted to."
Diana glared at me.
"Okay okay - Spiderman had to feed his spiders."
"Can I go on" she asked.
"Sure" I replied.
"So Superman leaves and hes flying around and he sees Wonder Woman lying naked on the beach".
"Why would Superman be interested in that" I questioned her.
"Because hes a man" Diana replied, thinking that she had the better of me this time.
"Well", I replied, "I'm sure if Superman really wanted to see Wonder Woman naked he could have done it lots of time at any Justice League meeting by just using his x-ray vision".
Diana sighed. "Okay - well Wonder Woman is having sex on the beach with the Invisible Man."
"Okay this is just getting ridiculous" I moaned. "The Invisible Man is a fictional character in a book by H.G. Welles. He's not even a comic book character, unless you include the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen but I don't think that counts in the current DC Universe. I'll have to look that one up.. I mean, I guess she could be having sex with Invisible Kid from the Legion of the Superheroes but hes from the future - which means that's pretty much impossible. I mean, if they are still in that loopy cross company event Wonder Woman might be having sex with Invisible Woman from the Fantastic Four. Hey...what kind of joke is this anyways" I asked.
"Forget it", Diana said finally fed up and she never did tell me the punch line.

Casey Calvert of hawthorne Heights died Nov. 24 2007 (1981-2007) This is very sad, cause I'm a fan
Today is probably the worst day ever. Its with our deepest regrets that we have to write this. Casey Calvert passed away in his sleep last night. We found out this afternoon before sound-check. We've spent the entire day trying to come to grips with this and figure out as much as possible. At this time we're not sure what exactly happened. Just last night he was joking around with everyone before he went to bed. We can say with absolute certainty that he was not doing anything illegal. Please, out of respect to Casey and his family, don't contribute or succumb to any gossip you may hear. We don't want his memory to be tainted in the least. Casey was our best friend. He was quirky and awesome and there will truly be no others like him! His loss is unexplainable. As soon as we know more we will let you know.
Sincerely,
Hawthorne Heights

Yeah, I really don't like this band but I am not going to celebrate a death of a band member. It kind of made me sick when everyone was saying the drummer from Leftover Crack deserved to die in celebatory posts and replies. He may have had it coming from drug use but it's shitty to celebrate someones death when they really didn't deserve it or they never hurt anyone.

I realize this is really nitpicking, and probably not what the band had in mind with this statement, but I find a bit odd the band's choice of words in saying Casey "was not doing anything illegal" (i.e. drugs) prior to his death. Even if he had been doing drugs (and the fact that some drugs are illegal while others are not is even less relevant) I would hope the band's fans would be sympathetic nonetheless. Regardless of the circumstances, it's tragic when anyone dies that young.

I hate this band, but that sucks. I was born in 1987, so I'm not too far off. RIP, man.
Speaking of those who have passed on, I highly recommend the Joe Strummer documentary, "The Future is Unwritten." It's really good, if not exactly brand new.

that is just terrible. i am very sorry to hear that. i'm a year older than he was. damn.

Holy fuck. I have no words right now.
Like many others here, I'm no fan of Hawthorne Heights music wise. But, a friend of mine was good friends with Casey so I've spoken to and hung out with the guy on a couple of occasions, and he was a really nice guy. Plus the fact that he was the same age as me (26)... that's really scary.
RIP man... this is a really shit thing to wake up to.
by manincognito on 2007-11-25 14:18:20
shit. rest in peace man, and my deepest condolences to the family and friends.

I would like to thank all of our posters for handling this in a respectful and appropriate manner. I can't imagine having had this response just six months ago.
Thank you so very much.

This is a huge tragedy. This guy was the exact same age as me. I can only imagine the impact on his friends and family. I had a friend die in a motorcycle accident this year and it tore me apart. I hope things are easier for these guys, especially given the turmoil they've been in recently.

I've never heard this band. Regardless of what anyone feels about this band's music, it's important to remember that these guys are people just like us. No matter what the experience has been with posters on this site and no matter what our taste in music is, everyone can agree that the guys in this band worked hard enough to be in the national spotlight (for at least a little time), and that needs to be rewarded. As far as this guy's death is concerned, that's terrifying. Someone so close to our collective ages dying is truly, truly a scary thing, especially for those of us that lead a similar lifestyle and find ourselves on the road at work doing this kind of thing for a "living". I know that I personally once was one of those people - constantly touring and doing this kind of thing day to day for a few months of the year, and it scares me to think that one of the guys in the bands I played in just wouldn't wake up the next day.
I'm happy to see the response to this as a generally nice one. I hope that friends, family and fans of Casey are reflecting on good times they had with a guy who was apparently a very gifted individual.
It's sad to have a death so close to thanksgiving, too. Hug the ones you're thankful for, everyone.

that's absolutely awful, i can not fathom how it must feel to have someone close to you just be gone like that
RIP, i feel for this guy's family and friends
by Seanzor on 2007-11-25 16:05:28
My cousin died the same way last year. My brother's friend's sister did a few days ago. Really shitty way to lose someone.
by Scootz_McNasty on 2007-11-25 16:15:41
This is really awful. These guys were at (or on their way to) the height of their careers. And so close to Thanksgiving and so young, its truly tragic. I was never a fan of their music, but they are still people just like you and me.
What can I say that hasn't been said already? I hate seeing the "In Memorium" tag with 1980-something right after. A family friend from when I was real little knew the guy in Ra-Ra-Riot really well. All these talented youths my age dying so often is hard to accept.
My condolences

Shame I suppose for someone to die that young, no matter how shit his band or music was (that's not the point)...
However, is it just me, or did Tony Victory suddenly go 'Holy shit, my hex fucking worked!'?

thats like when saddam was exacuted he did nothing good for anyone
just like how this peice of shit screamo drummer did nothing for punk
knowing the kind of music he plays makes me think he died of crying himself to sleep

Absolutepunk.net is reporting that guitarist Casey Calvert died on November 24, 2007.This is also posted on the main Hawthorne Heights website. The D.C. Fox affiliate has reported that Calvert used an inhaler for acute asthma and, pending official toxicology results, this condition could have caused his death.
by fuckthakids on 2007-11-25 18:54:06
To bad he didn't take the rest of the band with him. Horrible band guess it just proves no matter how bad yet successful the band they are not immortal. Funniest quote "He didn't do anything illegal" Maybe it was a Jerbaling accident.

I will have to side with most people who didn't like this band's music and yet feel really bad for them. All kidding aside, they didn't need this thrown on top of their ever-accumulating shitpile of lawsuits and frozen CD releases. Condolences go out Casey's family and the band, cuz having been in a touring band for a long time, I'm sure it feels like they'd lost a brother.

Anyone who stoops to the level of making a joke about this news is showing what a truly ugly, shallow, awful person they really are. Don't like HH's music? That's fine, turn it off. Don't buy it. Don't listen to it. To make insults when soemone dies? There's no place for that.
You didn't know Casey. If you did, you wouldn't be making these jokes. To say Casey was one of the "good guys" is an understatment. Completely unassuming, completely oblivous to nearly everything around him, and pretty much just an overgrown 5 year old, Casey was always the fun one. He was energetic as all hell and to see someone like this stolen from us is never funny, never a point for a punchline. You have no class, you have no respect, and you have no dignity.
Let Casey's memory live on, and let it be known that he was an amazing, amazing dude. Fuck everyone who thinks that's something worth spitting on.
by vivalaRachel on 2007-11-26 13:29:51
man, this is still hard to believe.
I wasn't the biggest fan of Hawthorne Heights - but I was a fan. and Casey was definitely my favorite member of the band. his personality was amazing.
I'm glad I got to meet him this summer in Cleveland, Ohio. we may have only talked for a few minutes, but I'll never forget that conversation. ever.
r.i.p. Casey
party hard in Heaven, babe.
